I see the sun as if across a sea of gold --
she shimmers now before me;
she sings in light, in love,
in ways that make
the waves all break
like crystals one can hold
but for a moment's breath, before they fade away --
whispered out like candle-flame,
whispered in a lover's ear
in words so soft
they hold aloft
the soul that's longed to fly
above the world, like birds who from their nests do soar
towards a star that seems
to ward away the shadows
in what, it seems,
are dreams of what
they always had,
but never were.
